1867

Gastown started with a single tavern founded by John “Gassy Jack” Deighton.

In 2009, Gastown Vancouver was officially designated a National Historic Site of Canada. But this neighbourhood also serves those with modern tastes, offering incredible boutique shopping in a six-block radius. Artists and tech visionaries are drawn to Gastown, inspired by its history and its future.

The Gastown clock, built in 1977, is one of only a few steam clocks in the world.

A neighbourhood founded on a bar is guaranteed to deliver a great drink, so it's no surprise that Gastown Vancouver is home to some of the city's favourite cocktail bars. At night, cosy fairy lights brighten the streets, glassy and twinkling when fresh rain has fallen. That feeling of possibility is all around Gastown.

This is Gastown,
Vancouver
