Overview

The Gastown steam clock was built by Canadian clockmaker Raymond Saunders in 1977. Though it does partially rely on steam to power its mechanisms, it does also have an electric motor. It whistles and expels steam every hour on the hour. It is considered to be one of the first steam clocks ever built and is one of the only clocks of its kind still operating in the world today. It is something of a Vancouver institution.
