Kitsilano is named after the Squamish chief, August Jack Khatsahlano, a renowned medicine man. This area has been home to the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) and səl̓ilwətaɁɬ (Tsleil-Waututh) peoples since time immemorial.
For more than 5 years, Kits has been voted “Vancouver’s Best Neighbourhood” by Lonely Planet.
More than ice cream, sunbathing, and sand, Kitsilano effortlessly blends bustle with relaxation. For the uninitiated, you can expect plenty of beachfront activities, heritage homes on tree-lined streets, and independent boutique stores.
