There are few things better than spending a hot summer day watching the Vancouver Canadians, the 2023 Northwest League (NWL) Championship-winning, High-A farm team of the Toronto Blue Jays, play a baseball game at their scenic ballpark, Rogers Field at Nat Bailey Stadium, in the beautiful Riley Park neighbourhood.

Going to see a Canadians game is such a treat, The New York Times felt the need to share a glowing profile of the team last year. They even compared the on-field atmosphere at the ballpark for fans to paradise, asking “Is this heaven?”

Hot off their magical last season culminating in an NWL title, the Canadians are currently off to a 10-3 start–good for a first-place overall start to their 2024 season so far. This is only more evidence of how Minor League Baseball (MiLB) has long been a cherished summertime activity for families in the city. The great buzz is thanks to a family-friendly experience at the Nat that’s perfect for anyone to enjoy from ardent baseball fans to those looking for a picturesque backdrop to have some casual fun.

There’s nothing like catching a baseball game with family and friends when the weather is good, the beer is cold, the hot dogs are fresh, and the Sushi Races are fast. Easily the highlight of many for any games is when the Canadians’ four iconic sushi mascots, Kappa Maki, Ms. BC Roll, Sadaharu Soy, and Chef Wasabi, round the bases in an entertaining, friendly race between innings.

Located in the heart of Riley Park–Little Mountain, the Nat is a short walk from parks, shops, cafés, and restaurants on or near Main Street. Explore the area by visiting Hillcrest Park, Hillcrest Centre, Queen Elizabeth Park, or the Bloedel Conservatory, all next to the field.

On Sundays, check out the Riley Park Farmers Market, featuring produce from 35+ farms, food carts, and coffee trucks, in front of the stadium throughout the summer.

Riley Park is also rich with great local coffee shops like Matchstick, Liberty Bakery, and Le Marché St. George. For a nice dinner, try places like Seasons in the Park, East is East, MeeT, Via Tevere Pizzeria, or Sula, all nearby. Maybe grab a beer after the game at Portland Craft or dessert from Yum Sweet Shop to cap off a day out.
