Beaches
Sand in every direction
You might not associate Vancouver with beaches, but here you’ll find large stretches of sand with spectacular views of the city and mountains
18 kilometers
of public beach across the city
Our stunning beach life is just another example of how our city is deeply connected to nature. Whether you're looking for a stretch of sand to spread out and relax with a good book, an outdoor court to spike a volleyball, or a platform for launching your paddleboard, you’ll find it all here.
Kitsilano
If Vancouver is "Hollywood North," then Kitsilano Beach, known as "Kits Beach", is our Venice Beach. You’ll be sure to fit in somewhere among the mix of joggers, stroller-pushing families, morning cold-dippers, volleyballers and your everyday loungers. A lawn above the tide line offers the perfect spot for a picnic or tossing a disc, while the 10 tennis courts provide a place to practice your serve with stunning beach views. And don't forget Kits Pool, the 137m outdoor, heated salt-water pool, with wrap-around views of the city, ocean and mountains, where kids and adults can splash the day away.

Jericho
When all the elements are right, fishing and a picnic at the Jericho Beach pier makes for a perfect evening. Enjoy the long, sandy stretch with stunning views of the North Shore Mountains and downtown core. It's also a great spot for sailing, windsurfing, sea kayaking, with rental options available such as Jericho Beach Kayak.
Spanish Banks
The least crowded and the longest stretch of sand. It’s the perfect combination for a tranquil retreat for those who wish to escape from the pace of city life. With expansive views of the North Shore mountains and out to the ocean, Spanish Banks makes for an epic sunset beach spot.
English Bay and Sunset Beach
The southern edge of the West End neighborhood boasts two of Vancouver's most picturesque waterfront areas: English Bay and Sunset Beach. Just steps away from city hustle and bustle, less than a 30- minute walk from most downtown hotels and perfectly neighboured by Stanley Park, this area embodies the city's blend of urban life and natural beauty.
Grab a coffee and stroll along the palm-tree-lined shore, enjoy a cocktail at a beachfront bar, or lay down a blanket and gaze up at the sky during the Celebration of Light, an international fireworks competition held over three nights in late July and early August.

Second and Third beach
Second Beach is a quick stroll north from English Bay into Stanley Park. Like Kitsilano Beach, Second Beach also has an immense, heated outdoor pool for a refreshing dip. Continue your walk or cycle along the scenic seawall to discover Third Beach, a west-facing gem that’s a favorite spot for summer evening barbecues, breathtaking sunset views, and lively drum circles.
Wreck beach
This 7.8-kilometer (4.8-mile) long, secluded beach is Canada's first and largest, legal, clothing-optional beach. Situated at the western tip of Vancouver, adjacent to the University of British Columbia campus and surrounded by lush forest, this beach embodies the essence of the Pacific Coast. Although the flight of 490 steep stairs is long, it's worth it for the serene escape and vibrant community, where its devoted beachgoers embrace freedom and nature and uphold a respectful and inclusive atmosphere.
