UBC's Point Grey campus is hosting the 2025 INDOCHINO U Sports Women's and Men's Final 8 Basketball Championships from March 13th to 16th. Here's how to catch the action, where to eat nearby, and tips for other must-do sports attractions in Vancouver.

All About the 2025 INDOCHINO U SPORTS Women’s and Men’s Final 8 Basketball Championships, presented by Victory Creative

Each year Canadian university basketball teams compete in the INDOCHINO U SPORTS Women’s and Men’s Final 8 Basketball Championships. The men's tournament dates back to 1963, while the women's tournament began in 1972. However, this year is the first time a single university will host both tournaments simultaneously.

To become one of the Final 8 teams to qualify for the tournament, university basketball teams can automatically qualify as winners of one of the four geographic conferences. The runners-up from the Canada West and OUA (Ontario University Athletics) conferences also qualify. The final two spots go to the host team (in this case UBC), and an at-large berth.

The tournament uses a single elimination format with teams trying to advance from the quarterfinal games on March 13th, to the semi-finals on the 14th and 15th, and the men's and women's gold medal games on the 16th. Consolation and bronze medal games will also be played on March 14th, 15th, and 16th to determine men's and women's team placing.

How to Catch the Games

The 2025 INDOCHINO U SPORTS Women’s and Men’s Final 8 Basketball Championships, presented by Victory Creative will be held at Thunderbird Arena at Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre and War Memorial Gymnasium on UBC's Point Grey campus.

Purchase tickets online through Ticketmaster. You may also be able to buy tickets at the door if unsold seats remain. Each ticket gives you access to a session of two games played back to back in the same venue.

War Memorial Gym is located near the University Boulevard entrance to UBC. This historic building dates back to 1951 and was built to honour students who died during the two World Wars. It is next to the UBC bus loop, so it's easy to take transit to the games. If you plan to drive, the closest parking is in North Parkade.

Doug Mitchell Thunderbird Sports Centre is at the south end of UBC's Point Grey Campus, a 15-minute walk from War Memorial Gym and the bus loop. If you're arriving by transit you can walk from the UBC bus loop or take the 25 bus which stops outside the Sports Centre. The closest parking is at Thunderbird Parkade.
