Get in shape for the Vancouver Sun Run, one of Canada’s largest road races, returning to the streets of downtown and False Creek on April 16. The annual race is a scenic 10-kilometre run and walk that attracts thousands of participants from across the country each and every year.

On track to be the largest running event in the country, the Sun Run annually draws upwards of 40,000 participants of all ages including 43,000 in 2019. The 2022 Sun Run drew 23,000 people and 2021’s virtual-only version drew 11,000 participants. Its charitable efforts have raised more than $3.3 million since its inception.

The Vancouver Sun Run is an opportunity for people to challenge themselves and stay active at the time. It’s also a celebration and beloved tradition of the city according to Race Director Tim Hopkins and Vancouver Sun Editor-in-Chief Harold Munro who both encourage everyone to take part by watching and supporting the participants.

It’s also Canada’s largest 10k road race and the third-largest timed 10k in North America with 28,000 to 30,000 participants expected this year after returning to an in-person event last year. The Sun Run is open to international elite competitors, recreational runners, joggers, walkers, wheelchair competitors, teams, schools, and youth.

If you prefer a shorter course than the 10k or if you’d like to get the whole family out together, the Shaw Mini Sun Run might be the better route to take. Families can practice their fitness together by participating in one of Vancouver’s premier family events.
