Nothing quite compares to the energy at a HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series tournament. This is the second year Vancouver will be hosting the two-day tournament that will bring 15 of the top rugby sevens teams in the world, including New Zealand, South Africa, England, Russia, USA, and more.

Limited tickets have just been released for the tournament that will be coming to town on Saturday, March 11 and Sunday, March 12.

The format of the games is 7 on 7 (instead of 15 on 15) and the games are shorter than usual, so the action is much faster-paced and very high scoring. It’s perfect for those who love rugby and those who have no idea what the heck is going on! The tournament sold out last year with 33,000 seats filled each day.

At the rugby 7s tournament, you’re not just watching one game, you’ll be watching many! Or, maybe you’ll just be busy watching the crowd – one of the loudest and most boisterous groups you’ll have the pleasure of joining!

Rugby aficionados and first-timers alike will get swept up in the infectious spirit that takes over the city. The party goes well-beyond the stadium and draws fans from near and far for a weekend-long festival.

One of the most memorable traditions of Rugby Sevens is the “fancy-dress” fun fans partake in at every stop along the tour. Costumes and characters from all walks of life emerge from closets painting a fantastical mosaic in stadium to feast your eyes. Vancouver 2017 is one party you don’t want to miss!

The format of the tournament is fairly easy to grasp: “Each Series stop has the 16 teams divided into 4 even pools based on previous rankings. Day 1 of each tournament consists of round-robin play between pools. Day 2 will see the bottom two teams of each pool will contest in the Challenge Trophy competition, where the higher seeded teams will progress to the Cup competition and have the chance to win gold, silver, or bronze medals. This format aligns with the format of the Olympics” (more about the series here).

If you’re not sure whether or not you want to get tickets, just do it. Only a limited amount have been made available, so jump on the bandwagon before it’s too late! There will even be breakfast options available, talk about a win!

More information about the tournament can be found on the 2017 Vancouver Rugby Sevens website.
