Playland will open its gates on May 6 with three brand new rides
While the weather may not agree (was that fresh snow on the mountains the other day!?), summer is slowly creeping closer in Vancouver and there’s no better sign than the fast-approaching opening date of Playland Amusement Park!
On Saturday, May 6 at 10am the much-loved attraction that has hosted millions of thrillseekers of all ages since it opened in 1910, will be opening its gates for the start of the 2017 amusement park season. Playland will be open on Saturdays, Sundays & Holidays until June 16, when it will be open all week long. This year, the season will open with three new family-friendly rides that are sure to excite.
When Playland officially opens its gates to kick off the 2017 season, all the classic rides will be there, including the wooden roller coaster, the Hellavator, the classic swing ride and much more. This year, three new family rides will also be making their debut:
- The Bug Whirled: This ride spins you through a magical land on the new coaster ride
- Flutterbye: Get ready to peddle your way to the clouds while flapping your wings
- Dizzy Drop: This ride takes you to high altitudes, shooting up to the sky then taking the plunge back down
All three rides will be placed inside the park’s “Kid’s Playce” area and will be a much tamer option than the “Crazy Beach Party” or “Beast” rides that the strong-stomached might be able to handle…

In additional news, Playland has announced that every Friday during the month of July the park will be hosting a series of 19+ adult only evenings. More details will be available at a later time, so stay tuned to the PNE/Playland Facebook page to learn more.
Gate admission to Playland costs $33 online and $36 at the gate, so if you want to save some cash – make sure to purchase your tickets online ahead of time.
Did you know: Playland was first named “Happy Land”? The beloved 1958 Wooden Roller Coaster remains the most popular ride on the site and one of the most highly regarded wooden coasters in the world and carries over half a million thrillseekers annually.
