Here comes Come From Away!
It’s taken three years for the smash hit Canadian musical to come to town. But tickets for the first-ever Vancouver performances of Come From Away finally go on sale this coming Monday, Dec. 10 at 10 a.m.
The across-the-board success comes to Queen Elizabeth Theatre March 5-10. Find out more about this Tony Award-winning must-see musical below.
Come From Away tells the true story of 7,000 passengers in the wake of 9/11. They take shelter in a small Newfoundland town where, as the media release for the show puts it, “Cultures clashed and nerves ran high, but uneasiness turned into trust, music soared into the night, and gratitude grew into enduring friendships.”
The show enjoyed sold-out, record-breaking, critically acclaimed world premiere engagements at La Jolla Playhouse and Seattle Repertory Theatre. The Los Angeles Times, Seattle Times, San Diego Union Tribune, and Times of San Diego are among the august organs that selected the work as among the best theatre pieces of 2015.
Charles McNulty of the Los Angeles Times called the show “An affecting, stirring and unpretentious new musical” and Bob Verini of Variety raved, “Superb! Canadians Irene Sankoff and David Hein have forged a moving, thoroughly entertaining tribute to international amity and the indomitable human spirit.”
It opened on Broadway in early 2017 and continues to play to standing-room-only audiences. A second company in Canada toured the production for a sold-out four-week engagement in Winnipeg.
The touring production of Come From Away features Kevin Carolan (Disney’s Newsies), Harter Clingman (Peter and The Starcatcher), Nick Duckart (In the Heights), Chamblee Ferguson, Becky Gulsvig (School of Rock the Musical), Julie Johnson (Memphis), Christine Toy Johnson (The Music Man), James Earl Jones II (The Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess), Megan McGinnis (Les Misérables), Andrew Samonsky (South Pacific), Danielle K. Thomas (Avenue Q), Emily Walton (August Osage County), Marika Aubrey, Jane Bunting, Michael Brian Dunn, Julie Garnyé, Adam Halpin and Aaron Michael Ray.

Come From Away’s awards include a Tony for Best Direction of a Musical, five Outer Critics Circle Awards (NYC), 4 Gypsy Rose Lee Awards (Seattle), three Toronto Theatre Critics Awards, and the 2017 Jon Kaplan Audience Choice Award (Toronto).
