With several TV series back in production after taking seasonal holiday breaks over Christmas and New Years’ Eve, Vancouver film is back in the swing of things.

That said, we’ll take a look at two productions that are coming to the end of their runs for the season, as well as a blockbuster that is back behind the camera.

A major production that resumes production today (January 9) is The Predator.

Filmmaker Shane Black is shooting this newest installation of a franchise launched by the 1987 sci-fi blockbuster Predator, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Olivia Munn, of Psylocke fame, will star in The Predator.

It started on September 30 and, having resumed production after a holiday season hiatus, will continue until May 15.

There’s some ambiguity and confusion as to whether this film is a bonafide sequel or a reboot as many details are being kept under wraps.

Some of the cast members were recently revealed, including Olivia Munn (X-Men: Apocalypse), Boyd Holbrook (Gone Girl), Keegan-Michael Key, Trevante Rhodes, and 50 Cent.

Fans will have quite a wait before it hits the big screen though—the film will be released on March 2, 2018.

Meanwhile, another show that came back from a holiday break (from December 17 to January 2) is ending production today.

iZombie started shooting Season 3 back on July 25.

The series revolves around Seattle medical resident Olivia “Liv” Moore (played by Rose McIver), who is turned into a zombie at a party.

She takes a job at a morgue, where she feeds on the brains of murder victims. However, after discovering that she inherits some of the dead peoples’ memories when she eats their brains, she teams up with police (pretending to be a psychic) to help solve murders.

Seasons 3 and 4 will focus on discrimination against zombies, and in the upcoming season, Live and her allies will discover that there are far more zombies roaming about than they ever imagined.

Andrew Caldwell (Transformers) will have a recurring role in Season 3 as Harley Jones, a gun-loving, anti-government extremist.

The new season is set to hit the airwaves on the CW on April 4.

Elsewhere in the city, DC’s Legends of Tomorrowwraps up production on Season 2 tomorrow (January 10). It originally started shooting in town back on July 18.

The series centres around time traveller Rip Hunter (Arthur Darvill) who assembled a team of superpowered individuals to stop Vandal Savage (Casper Crump) and prevent a disastrous event from happening that could threaten not only Earth but all of time.

The cast includes Victor Garber as Martin Stein/Firestorm, Franz Drameh as Jeffrey Jackson/Firestorm, Brandon Routh as Ray Palmer/Atom, Caity Lotz at Sara Lance/White Canary, and more.

In Season 2, new cast members included Maisie Richardson-Sellers as Amaya Jiwe/Vixen, Nick Zano as Nathan Heywood/Citizen Steel, and Matt Letscher as Eobard Thawne/Reverse-Flash.

But there’s good news for fans as new episodes will be broadcast on CTV on January 24.

Guest stars will include Neal McDonough as Damien Darhk and John Barrowman as Malcolm Merlyn.

On that note, that’s all for this round of what’s shooting in town but as the weather warms up, undoubtedly the film scene will too. So check back in with us next week and in the meantime, be sure to keep those eyes peeled as you wander around the streets of Hollywood North.
