Vancouver Screen Scene: From Jesse Metcalfe to The 100
This week’s roundup of productions shooting in Vancouver includes a rundown of some of the films bringing big names to town as well as TV series launching into production this week.
But first up, here’s a film that starts shooting today.
Production on The Ninth Passenger, the feature film directorial debut of Ian Pfaff, gets underway today (July 11) and continues shooting until July 30.
The cast includes Jesse Metcalfe (Desperate Housewives, John Tucker Must Die) and Veronica Dunne (K.C. Undercover), as well as Vancouver’s own Corey Large (It Follows) and Alexia Fast (Jack Reacher).

The thriller follows a group of college students who decided take an impromptu sail on the ocean during the night. But when they drift on to a dark island, they discover they’re being hunted down by someone else.
Meanwhile, July 18 will see some major productions, boasting some big box-office names, kick into gear.

Production will begin on Wonder, starring Julia Roberts and Vancouver’s Jacob Tremblay.
Tremblay stars as a boy with a facial deformity who attends a school for the first time, after having been homeschooled for years by his mother (Roberts).
Another production kicking off that day will be Why We’re Killing Gunther, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger.

This action-comedy feature film follows an international collection of assassins who go after the world’s top hitman (Schwarzenegger) but somehow can never seem to catch him.

The ensemble cast includes Taran Killam (who is also writing and directing the film), Vancouver’s Cobie Smulders (Avengers: Age of Ultron), Bobby Moynihan (Saturday Night Live), Kumail Nanjiani (Silicon Valley), Randall Park (Fresh Off the Boat), Ryan Gaul (Identity Thief), and Paul Brittain (Saturday Night Live).

On the TV side of things, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow also launches into shooting Season 2 on the same day.
The cast includes Canadian actor Victor Garber (Titanic, Argo), Brandon Routh (Superman Returns), and Caity Lotz (Arrow).

Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell not only starred on DC’s Legends of Tomorrow (unfortunately, Miller won’t be in Season 2) but they also star in Prison Break, which wrapped up production on July 9.

Later on, The 100 starts shooting Season 4 on August 2 and continues until January 16, 2017.
This post-apocalyptic sci-fi drama series follows a group of juvenile delinquents who are the first people to return to Earth from space after nuclear war has destroyed the world. On Earth, they must learn to survive while they encounter unexpected survivors.
The cast includes Paige Turco (Person of Interest), Bob Morley (Home and Away), Isiaiah Washington (Grey’s Anatomy), and Eliza Taylor (Neighbours).
