Vancouver is One of the World’s Most Popular Film Destinations
Insurance giant GoCompare recently released results of a comprehensive research study showcasing the world’s most popular filming locations. Using data from IMDB, the site listed top cities, countries and attractions used on the big and small screens – and Vancouver emerged a leader.
Vancouver ranked 14th most filmed location on Earth (the only other Canadian city on the list, Toronto, ranked #15). The University of British Columbia ranked among the most filmed attractions with 91 productions to date. The sprawling campus has transformed from New York World’s Fair to epic battle site to futuristic rose garden in popular films and TV shows like Tomorrowland, X-Men Origins: Wolverineand Altered Carbon. Visitors can snap photos of film sites at UBC, then check out the campus’s many public attractions, including the colourful Museum of Anthropology, offbeat Beaty Biodiversity Museum (look up to see the massive blue whale skeleton soaring overhead) and tranquil Nitobe Memorial Garden.
