Sabrina Furminger
Vancouver-based film and television journalist Sabrina Furminger is a minehouse of information about local and visiting actors, filmmakers and creators who make up the city’s diverse screen scene landscape. She channels this passion for all things entertainment into YVR Screen Scene, her newly launched digital magazine celebrating Vancouver’s thriving film and TV industry.
Throughout the years, Sabrina has earned a loyal following – along with multiple awards – for her film coverage, including a Women in Film & Television Vancouver Spotlight Award (2016) and consecutive Ma Murray Awards (2017, 2018). She has also established close relationships with members of the film and television communities, and is a regular at red carpet functions. Sabrina is a film festival juror for Vancouver International Film Festival, Vancouver Just for Laughs Film Festival and Crazy8s; hosts the monthly film series Her Stories: Women Call the Shots at VIFF’s Vancity Theatre; and writes “The Showbiz”, a weekly film and TV show column in the Vancouver Courier newspaper. As if Sabrina wasn’t busy enough, she has also authored two books: The Healer and Men of Science Fiction, the latter of which she collaborated on with celebrity photographer Dennys Ilic.
During her rare downtime, Sabrina spends as much time as possible exploring Vancouver. With difficulty, she narrowed down for us her favourite Vancouver moments:
