You’ve combed through your directory, made your short-lists and weighed the pros and cons. You’ve chosen your bubble carefully. Now, you can safely venture out on TransLink for a full day of frolicking through Metro Vancouver with your closest friends.

All you need is a bold sense of adventure – and of course your face covering. It’s all part of TransLink’s new standard of COVID safety across the entire system. Matching masks might be fun?

1. First thing, round up the crew and head to Granville Island. You can easily access it on the 50 Bus from downtown, or the 84 if you’re coming from the east or the west. The Public Market opens at 9 am so head there first and get yourselves a coffee and a donut from Lee’s and browse through the stalls to pick out snacks for a picnic later. Enjoy your breakfast browsing the stalls and shops of local artisans, or just set yourselves on a waterside bench and take in the morning between the bridges along False Creek.

2. When you’re ready for action, walk up to 4th Avenue and board the 84 VCC-Clark Station and ride until you reach the Ontario Street stop. Hop out and head up to 6th Avenue to Cycle BC Rentals and enjoy the next few hours touring Vancouver’s near endless cycling paths. Explore Mount Pleasant, hit Kits Beach or venture across the bridge to English Bay and Stanley Park, it’s completely up to you. Wherever route you take, find a sweet spot of grass to park it along the way and enjoy the bounty you scored from Granville Island.

3. After returning your bikes, head back down to the Main Street—Science World Station and head east on the SkyTrain one stop to the culinary mecca that is Commercial Drive. Whet those pedal-induced appetites at one of the many restaurants, cafés and bars that line Vancouver’s liveliest street. Highlights include JamJar Canteen for Lebanese food done simply and deliciously, Memphis Blues Barbeque House if you have a particularly hungry brunch, or for an old fashioned Italian dining event straight out of Goodfellas, sink into the dark wood and checkered table cloths of Pepino’s Spaghetti House.

4. Bellies full, head back downtown on the SkyTrain or the 20 Downtown bus and meet your guide for the Lost Souls of Gastown Tour from Forbidden Vancouver Walking Tours. See your city in a whole new lamplight as you follow in the footsteps of murder and revenge in a dramatic retelling of Victorian Vancouver’s most gruesome histories. With the show taking place completely outdoors and socially distant, it’s the safest way going to get the thrill of live theater. It’s dramatic finale sets you out into the night at Gastown’s Maple Tree Square, with lots of options for just one more cocktail mere steps away…
