While it’s back to school for most of the city, a bunch of TV and film productions are getting back on camera around town.

Among them is a threesome dramedy and a sci-fi series that’s new to town. And in other news, a South Korean director is coming back to town.

To start things off, the poly romcom You Me Her gets going on Season 3 today (September 5) and continues production until October 20.

This American-Canadian TV series revolves around a suburban married couple in Portland, Oregon, with a twist: this husband (Greg Poehler) and wife (Rachel Blanchard) decide to salvage their dying sex life by integrating a 25-year-old call girl Izzy (Priscilla Faia) into their relationship and becoming an agreed-upon love triangle.

The cast also includes Melanie Papalia, Jennifer Spence, Jarod Joseph, Ennis Esmer, Chelah Horsdal, Laine MacNeil, and more.

While Season 1 explored the throuple figuring out how to establish the relationship, Season 2 delved into issues about “coming out” to their friends and relatives about their arrangement.

What will Season 3 hold? We’ll have to wait until the new season premieres in 2018.

Elsewhere in the city, on Thursday (September 7), Colony launches into filming 13 episodes for Season 3, continuing until February 16.

Although the first two seasons were shot in Los Angeles (where the show is set), the production has relocated to Vancouver for its newest season.

This sci-fi drama follows a family living in the near-future under a military occupation by extraterrestrials. Major cities around the world, including L.A., have been surrounded by massive walls where human populations are trapped. Meanwhile, a secret Resistance to the colonization has arisen.

In Season 2, FBI special agent Will (Josh Holloway) and his wife Katie (Sarah Wayne Callies), who is a secret Resistance operative, were reunited with their son, who had been separated from them when the wall went up).

However, they were all forced to flee from their home while struggling to stay together.

The cast also includes Peter Jacobson, Amanda Righetti, Tory Kittles, Adrian Pasdar, Kathleen Rose Perkins, Isabella Crovetti-Cramp, Alexander Neustaedter, and Jacob Buster.

Season 3 will air in 2018.

Meanwhile in other filming news, two upcoming films have popped up on our radar but almost no details have been revealed about them yet.

One of them is Elsewhere, which shoots from September 11 to October 11.

It’s to be directed by Costa Rican filmmaker and actor Hernán Jiménez Garcia, who has directed films such as About Us (Entonces nosotros) and The Return (El regreso).

Later on, A Dog’s Way Homewill be in production from October 16 to December 15.

It’ll be directed by Charles Martin Smith, who has directed a number of animal-themed films such as Dolphin Tale and Air Bud. He has also directed Canadian TV series such as Da Vinci’s City Hall and Motive, in addition to films such as Stone of Destiny (2008).

The cast hasn’t been announced but presumably a dog will be part of it.

Speaking of pets, here’s an upcoming screening that may interest animal lovers.

Coming up this month is the 2017 Vancouver International Film Festival, which runs from September 28 to October 3. In addition to filmgoers, the festival attracts numerous local and international filmmakers, stars, and other special guests.

Among them will be South Korean filmmaker Bong Joon-ho who will be attending a special screening of his action-adventure film Okja, which was partly filmed in Vancouver in 2016.

The film follows what happens when a South Korean girl (Ahn Seo-hyun) tries to protect her special breed of massive pig from being captured and slaughtered by a corporation.

The film stars Tilda Swinton, Paul Dano, Jake Gyllenhaal, Steven Yeun, Devon Bostick, and more.

Bong and visual-effects supervisor Erik-Jan de Boer will participate in a discussion at the screening. The date and venue for the screening is yet to be announced.

Currently, the pilot for the TV adaptation of his film Snowpiercer is shooting in Vancouver until September 29. It started back on August 28 and stars Jennifer Connelly and Daveed Diggs.
