Filming in Vancouver: The Predator’s back, Colony wraps, and four new TV pilots are coming

In this week’s roundup of what’s happening in Vancouver’s screen scene, a sci-fi TV series is wrapping up but a predatory sci-fi flick is coming back to town for more filming. Meanwhile, four TV pilots will be flying into town next month to film.

Let’s take a look at what’s going on this week and in the near future in Hollywood North.

There’s some interesting news as the latest installation for the Predator franchise, The Predator (also known as Predator 4), will be back in Vancouver for reshoots from March 12 to 29.

There’s no word on which actors might be back but the cast includes Boyd Holbrook, Olivia Munn, Trevante Rhodes, Keegan-Michael Key, Sterling K. Brown, Yvonne Strahovski, Alfie Allen, Thomas Jane, and Jacob Tremblay.

Several of the cast members have Vancouver connections.

Munn shot Season 2 of the military drama TV series Six here, Holbrook starred in the feature film Two/One (shot in Vancouver and Whistler), and child star Tremblay (who starred in the locally shot Wonder) is from Vancouver.

The Predator originally wrapped production in June 2017. Fans will only have to wait a few more months to see the final product as it’s slated for a theatrical release on August 3.

While that shoot will take place next month, a new feature film starts shooting this week.

The Perfection, directed by Richard Shepard (Girls), will film from February 14 to March 16.

Details are limited on this one but this horror-thriller revolves around cello prodigies who develop a dark obsession that fuels their pursuit of perfection.

The film stars Allison Williams (Get Out), who previously worked with Shepard on Girls, and Logan Browning (Dear White People). The rest of the cast hasn’t been revealed yet.

In addition to Vancouver, the film will also be shot in Shanghai.

On the home-screen side of things, Colony finished up shooting Season 3 this week on Friday (February 16).

The sci-fi series, which started filming back on September 7, follows a family struggling to survive after an alien invasion colonizes Los Angeles.

The cast includes Josh Holloway, Sarah Wayne Callies, Peter Jacobson, Tory Kittles, and Amanda Righetti.

The Season 3 premiere date hasn’t been announced yet.

Although that one may have called it a wrap, a whole bunch of TV pilots are trundling our way in March, and if they get the go-ahead, it could mean more new TV series being shot in Vancouver.

Dead Inside, directed by Michael Patrick Jann, will shoot from March 8 to 29, though no details have been revealed about this show. Jann has directed episodes of several locally shot TV series such as The Good Doctor and Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency.

In Between Lives will be directed by Danish filmmaker and actor Charlotte Sieling (The Man) and will film from March 12 to 27. Information on this TV series is not available yet.

Safe Harbor, directed by Michael Offer (Homeland), will shoot from March 13 to April 2. This police drama will follow the lives of police officers both on and off the beat, and in situations ranging from the emotional to the amusing. The cast hasn’t been revealed yet.

A Million Little Things will shoot from March 12 to 29. The ensemble drama will follow a group of friends who are all stuck in their lives but the death of one of them is a wakeup call for the rest of them.

The only cast member announced thus far is David Giuntoli (Grimm), who will play a music teacher and stay-at-home dad whose marriage is in trouble as he questions what his life would have been like if he had made different choices.

Whew, that’s quite the list!
