Get in the Seasonal Spirit with the Chilling Adventures of Sabrina
Overview
Fall is coming, and that means Halloween is right around the corner! If you haven’t indulged in a ghostly session of The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, now is the time: this spooky series set in Vancouver takes inspiration from classic spine-tinglers like Rosemary’s Baby and The Exorcist. Already a fan? Plunge into Sabrina’s world by taking a spin to the real-life Metro Vancouver locations pictured in the show – we’ve included plenty of spots to fuel up with fall-friendly potions near each so you can enhance your Sabrina-influenced touring with seasonal cheer. Happy fall!
Paramount
You’ll recognize the exterior of this flashy gentleman’s club in New Westminster as the movie theatre where Sabrina and her pals watch a horror film in the show’s opening episode. Not where your interests lie? Head down the block to El Santo, a spunky Mexican spot boasting flavourful cuisine and tequila- and mezcal-heavy cocktails; for an autumn treat, try the Horchata, a spicy combination of house-made rice milk and cinnamon. Our recommendation: jazz it up with a shot of rum! (For more culinary fun in New Westminster, click here.)
Vogue theatre
The Paramount’s interior scenes were filmed at the Vogue Theatre on Granville Street. Built in 1941, this historic venue hosts nearly 200 events each year, giving you plenty of opportunities to check out the space. The perfect complement to your theatre visit is nearby UVA Wine & Cocktail Bar, whose sleek space features a liquor-filled cabinet of curiosities. Nothing says fall like a toasty whisky, so drop by during Fiddich Fridays when Glenfiddich whisky flights and cocktails are on special.
Cloverdale
Downtown Cloverdale appears regularly in The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, particularly “Cerberus Books” (formerly an electronic store). After marveling at the shop, take a one-minute jaunt to Hawthorne Beer Market & Bistro, where you can indulge in local craft beer and hearty pub fare. Since fall is cider season, we’ll be opting for the Coastal Blue Blueberry Cider.
Barnet Marine Park
An idyllic spot for early-morning strolls or catching an evening sunset, this spectacular green space beside Burrard Inlet features swimming, fishing and picnic areas. We recommend bringing treats along so you can take your time soaking in the scene. Luckily, local favourite Gabi & Jules is just an eight-minute drive from the park; pick up hot chocolate and an apple pie, and enjoy your goodies waterside for an indulgent afternoon pick-me-up.
Belcarra Regional Park
This 2,700-acre (1,100-hectare) park extends from Belcarra Bay to Sasamat Lake (swimmers, take note: the latter is one of the warmest lakes in Vancouver). After following in Sabrina’s footsteps in the forest trails, stop for a breather on the beach before heading onward. A 10-minute drive away is Port Moody’s famed Brewery Row, a collection of distinctive craft breweries clustered in one block. Take your pick and settle in for a broom-less flight!
