Just outside of the downtown core you'll find North America's second largest Chinatown where you'll be exposed to a broad spectrum of Asian culture. From inexpensive imported household goods, to herbal remedies and a plethora of great restaurants Chinatown is a must see for anyone visiting Vancouver. South of Chinatown on Main Street beyond 16th Avenue you'll find Antique Rowfeaturing store after store filled with trinkets and keepsakes from different eras and parts of the world. There's plenty of retail shopping and the "Childrens Market" which features a childrens play area and shops that cater to kids is a family favorite.
A little further west great eating and shopping can be found along West Broadway and in Kitsilano. "Kits" as it is called, has long been Vancouver's hippest spot to hang out. The area features cool record shops, unique restaurants, many trendy retailers and its own beach. Broadway Street runs for miles boasting store after store offering everything from children' clothing to camping gear. Just off of Broadway on Granville Street south you'll find a number of art galleries, gift shops, gourmet grocers and upscale retailers.
On the east side of Vancouver is Commercial Drive. Known around town as The Drive, and Little Italy this is a largely Italian community featuring great cappuccino bars, the best pizza and gelato in town, and some of Vancouver's most unique independent retail shops.
